Our HistoryHistory

Bluegrass Search and Rescue Inc. is a non-profit, 501C3, volunteer organization that was established in 1983 by our Chief, James Givens. Chief Givens lost his brother in a drowning accident and his appreciation and gratitude of a Florida SAR team's efforts inspired him to start this local organization.

B.G.S.A.R. became an affiliated team with the Georgetown/Scott County Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security in 1999. B.G.S.A.R. responds to calls across Kentucky from Louisa to Bowling Green and other States if requested. Bluegrass Search and Rescue is active in community activities and members present safety programs for schools, churches and youth organizations.

It is the mission of B.G.S.A.R. to provide dedicated, trained and professional personnel to conduct search and rescue/recovery operations in a ethical and compassionate manner and we will be diligent in our love and passion to this service through ongoing training, education, team work and commitment to our fellow man. Our members are on-call 24/7. Typically, we are called to provide man-power and K-9 specialists for urban and wilderness search/recovery request and/or drowning. Additionally, our squad will provide support and assistance for the following tactical rescues that include, but are not limited to, high angle, swift-water and cave rescues.
